Instructions to authors

Bulletin of Experimental Biology and Medicine (BEBM) is a bilingual peer-reviewed academic journal published monthly by the Publishing House of the Russian Academy of Medical Science (in Russian) and Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature (in English). BEBM is devoted to the rapid dissemination of essentially novel and significant experimental results in diverse fields of biology and medicine performed as the planned studies in research centers and institutions. The papers with especially important data are published on a priority basis.

BEBM does not accept:

1) the extensive papers subdivided into a number of individual communications,

2) the papers with a description of incomplete studies without definite results and conclusions,

3) the papers of merely descriptive nature that are not accompanied with analytic conclusions.

Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to BEBM.

The submitted manuscripts should be written in a concise form providing a comprehensive description of employed experimental technique and obtained results.

The manuscript should be submitted in electronic form typed in Microsoft Word. Submission of a manuscript to BEBM means the complete agreement of the authors with BEBM rules and instructions. If the semantic or technical flaws are detected during the processing of the manuscript, the article can be returned to author(s) for correction.

The price of publication for non-Russian authors is 750$. We accept payments only from legal entities (not from individuals).

The size of the manuscript with tables should not surpass 6 standard pages (1,800 characters each including the spaces). The Editorial Board has the right to abridge the manuscript.

The submitted manuscripts should be written in a concise form providing a comprehensive description of an employed experimental technique and obtained results.

The manuscript should be submitted with the cover letters from all the institutions where the study was carried out. The authors warrant that the submitted manuscript is the original author’s text and that the paper (or its parts) has not been published or submitted elsewhere. The authors warrant compliance with international humanistic principles in experiments on animals.

Consent to Publish

The submitted paper should be typed on single-sided A4 pages in 12-point Times New Roman font with one-and-a-half line spacing and margins of no less than 2 cm.

The body of a paper should start with a short introduction followed by the sections:

1) MATERIALS AND METHODS,

2) RESULTS,

3) REFERENCES.

The paper should start with 1) title; 2) initials and family names of authors; 3) the name of research institute where the study was carried out; 4) city and country; 5) an abstract of 700-900 signs; 6) the key words (no more than 5 items); and 7) the only one author and the address for correspondence.

The proofs should be carefully written by an(the) author(s); the chemical formulas, tables, and the applied doses must be endorsed by the author in the margins.

Statistical processing. At the end of the MATERIALS AND METHODS section, the methods of statistical data processing should be specified, and the format of summarized data should be indicated (m±SEm±SEM, Me (Q1; Q3), etc.). The statistical software and its version, which had been used in the study, should be also given (SPPS Statistics, Statistica, MatLab, etc.). The authors should describe the statistical tests employed to assess the significance of the presented data with due account for the design of the study. The statistical methods should be substantiated and correctly used. The significance levels must be specified (for instance, p<0.05).

Figures. No more than 3 figures can be supplied. Each figure should consist of no more than 6 fragments. The figures should be clear and easily reproducible; the plots and curves are marked with Arabic numerals. Each figure is supplemented with numbers and inscriptions, which should appear in figure space.

The original microphotographs are submitted with individual TIFF or JPG files containing their notation-free fragments. They should contain the scaling bar. The resolution of the original microphotographs should be no smaller than 300 dpi and 8 cm. The legends to figures are given at the end of the manuscript. The legends start with a general description of the figure, followed by an explanation of alphanumeric notations. The legends to microphotographs should indicate magnification and staining/impregnation methods. The data in figures should not repeat those in tables and in the text!

Tables. No more than 3 tables should contain only necessary research data given in the generalized and statistically processed form. Each table is supplied with the order number and title. All numbers and units of measurements should correspond to the text. The data in tables should not repeat those in figures and in the text!

Abbreviations. The paper can use typical abbreviations and acronyms of measurement units, chemical names, and other technical terms listed in www.iramn.ru only after their initial complete spelling. In addition, authors can introduce up to 3 original acronyms and abbreviations.

References. The list of references in alphabetical order (no more than 15 items published after 2000) is given at the end of the manuscript. The references should not include unpublished papers, the abstracts of meetings and conferences, abstracts of theses, and dissertations. The references in the text should give the number in the reference list placed within square brackets. The journal articles should be referenced with the abbreviated name of the journal, year, volume, number, and pages. The books are references by title, publisher name, and year of publication.

The date of manuscript submission. The date of manuscript submission is the day when it is received by BEBM Editorial Board in the final form.

Authors’ signatures. At the end of the manuscript, it should be signed by all authors. Their complete family names, first names, and patronymic names are presented in English.
