CELL TECHNOLOGY IN BIOLOGY AND MEDICINE

INSTRUCTIONS TO AUTHORS

Cell Technology in Biology and Medicine (CTBM) is a peer-reviewed academic journal published every 4 months by the Publishing House RAMS (in Russian) and Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature (in English). CTBM rapid dissemination of essentially novel and significant experimental results in diverse fields of biology and medicine performed as the planned studies in research centers and institutions. The papers with especially important data are published on priority basis.

Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to CTBM

The authors warrant that the submitted manuscript is the original author’s text and that the paper (or its parts) has not been published or submitted elsewhere.

Since CTBM is a member of Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE), authors are recommended to follow COPE GUIDELINES ON GOOD PUBLICATION PRACTICE.

The manuscript should be submitted in electronic form typed in Microsoft Word. Submission of a manuscript to CTBM means the complete agreement of the authors with CTBM rules and instructions. If the semantic or technical flaws are detected during the processing of the manuscript, the article can be returned to author(s) for correction.

The article processing charge for non-Russian authors is 6500 ¥ (CNY). We accept payments  from legal entities. The article processing charge is non-refundable.

The size of the manuscript  should not surpass 12 standard pages (1800 characters each including the spaces). The Editorial Board has the right to abridge the manuscript.

The manuscript should be submitted with the cover letters from all the institutions where the study was carried out.

Consent to Publish

The submitted manuscripts should be written in a concise form providing a comprehensive description of an employed experimental technique and obtained results.

The submitted paper should be typed on single-sided A4 pages in 12-point Times New Roman font with one-and-a-half line spacing and margins of no less than 2 cm.

The paper should follow the IMRAD Format and starts with 1) title; 2) authors names and affiliations: name(s) and family name(s) of author(s) and the name of research institute/affiliated organization where the study was carried out (full address of each affiliation is required); 5) an abstract of 700-900 signs; 6) the key words (no more than 5 items); and 7) the only one author and the address for correspondence.

Abbreviations. The paper can use typical abbreviations and acronyms of measurement units, chemical names, and other technical terms listed in the end of The Instructions. In addition, authors can introduce up to 3 original acronyms and abbreviations but only after their initial complete spelling.

The body of a paper should start with a short introduction followed by the sections:

1) MATERIALS AND METHODS (here and after M&M).

M&M should be sufficiently detailed. Authors should identify (describe) the used methods, reagent (including antibody), and equipment (by providing the manufacturer’s name,  for reagents and antibody — catalog number), to reach the transparency of the research and to allow others to reproduce the results. Authors should give references to established methods, including statistical methods; provide references and brief descriptions for methods that have been published but are not well-known; describe new or substantially modified methods, give the reasons for using them, and evaluate their limitations. All drugs and chemicals used should be identified precisely, including generic name(s), dose(s), and route(s) of administration.

Ethics. The authors warrant compliance with international humanistic principles in experiments on animals (for example, with Directive 2010/63/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council of 22 September 2010 on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes). In research that involves the use of human subjects, the author(s) should ensure that the work described has been carried out in accordance with The Code of Ethics of the World Medical Association (Declaration of Helsinki).

Statistics. At the end of the M&M section, the methods of statistical data processing should be specified, and the format of summarized data should be indicated (m±SEm±SEM, Me (Q1; Q3), etc.). The statistical software and its version, which had been used in the study, should be also given (SPPS Statistics, Statistica, MatLab, etc.). The authors should describe the statistical tests employed to assess the significance of the presented data with due account for the design of the study. The statistical methods should be substantiated and correctly used. The significance levels must be specified (for instance, p<0.05).

2) RESULTS (includes discussion and conclusion).

Figures. No more than 6 figures can be supplied. Each figure should consist of no more than 4 fragments. The figures should be clear and easily reproducible; the plots and curves are marked with Arabic numerals. Each figure is supplemented with numbers and inscriptions, which should appear in figure space.

The original microphotographs are submitted with individual TIFF or JPG files containing their notation-free fragments. They should contain the scaling bar. The color figures should be presented in CMYK standard with the resolution of the original microphotographs should be no smaller than 300 dpi and 7 cm. The legends to figures are given at the end of the manuscript. The legends start with a general description of the figure, followed by an explanation of alphanumeric notations. The legends to microphotographs should indicate magnification and staining/impregnation methods. The data in figures should not repeat those in tables and in the text!

Tables. No more than 4 tables should contain only necessary research data given in the generalized and statistically processed form. Each table is supplied with the order number and title. All numbers and units of measurements should correspond to the text. The data in tables should not repeat those in figures and in the text!

At the end of the RESULTS section, authors should disclose any potential conflict of interest or declare that they have no conflict of interest. Authors also should provide information about any financial support or relevant funding information.

3) REFERENCES.

The list of references  (no more than 30 items published after 2000) is given at the end of the manuscript and should follow the Vancouver reference style. The references should not include unpublished papers, the abstracts of meetings and conferences, abstracts of theses, and dissertations. The references in the text should give the number in the reference list placed within square brackets, for example, [1]. The books are references by title, publisher name, and year of publication.

The date of manuscript submission. The date of manuscript submission is the day when it is received by CTBM Editorial Board in the final form.

Names and Addresses. At the end of the manuscript, there should be the following information about all authors: full last and first names (patronymic name if there is one) in English, affiliation(s), telephone number, email, and author’s signature.

By signing the manuscript, the authors thereby delegate the rights for its publishing and translation to CTBM (Publishing House RAMS).
