The antioxidant effect of turmeric extract in rectal suppositories of the original composition in experimental Crohn's disease
A prerequisite for the development of new therapeutic approaches for Crohn's disease (CD), the pathogenesis of which, inter alia, is associated with a change in redox status, is a wide range of side effects and the limited effectiveness of the drugs used. The objective of the work was to evaluate the effect of turmeric extract in the composition of rectal suppositories on the clinical symptoms, content of Lipid peroxidation (LPO) and Protein oxidative modification (POM) products in the large intestine mucosa in experimental Corhn’s disease (CD). The experiment was performed on 49 Wistar rats. CD was induced by rectal administration of trinitrobenzene sulfonic acid (TNBSA), tn 12 hours, the rectal suppositories with 10% turmeric extract of original composition were used after 12 hours. Clinical status was determined using the modified Disease activity index scale and the content of LPO and POM in the large intestine mucosa was determined using the extraction-spectrophotometric method on the 3rd, 5th, and 7th days of induced CD. In the dynamics of CD, along with the clinical symptoms increase, an increase of primary, secondary and final LPO products in the heptane and isopropanol phases, and predominant accumulation of secondary POM products in the large intestine mucosa was revealed. The severity of clinical symptoms increases with the increase of LPO products. The use of rectal suppositories with turmeric extract in CD reduces the severity of clinical symptoms, the content of LPO products and the total content of PMO products, it helps to limit the damage of amino acid residues, and partially restore the reserve and adaptive potential.
