Investigation of mechanism action pulmonotoxicant formed by pypolysis of perfluoro-n-alcanes base on the circumstances of air-hematological barrier organization.
Perfluoroisobutylene (PFIB) is pulmonotoxicant formed by pyrolysis of perfluoro-n-alkanes (polytetrafluoroethylene). The mechanism of acute lung injury caused by PFIB intoxication has not been completely studied. In the study of the tissues of the herbal frog we established that the products of polytetrafluoroethylene pyrolysis cause a typical inflammatory reaction in lungs (fluid accumulation, stasis of red blood cells, desquamation of epithelium, pulmonary septum capillaries overflow) and in the oropharynx (dystrophy of ciliated columnar epithelium, hyperemia of the underlying vessels with plasma impregnation of connective tissue, margination of segmentonuclear leukocytes and monocytes). In contrast to the blood-air barrier of lungs, barrier in oropharyngeal cavity of a frog does not contain a surfactant. It can be assumed that the toxic effect of PFIB is realized through the impact on epithelial cells (pneumocytes, ciliated columnar epithelium) and endothelial cells, whereas the effect on surfactant is not excluded, but does not determine the probability of the inflammatory process.
